Gen Y shows its cares - 20somethings aim to make a difference

Since her freshman year in high school, senior Gloria Avalos of
California State University, Monterey Bay, has volunteered to
improve the east Salinas community where she grew up. Avalos, 23,
is now a student leader in the university's renowned
service-learning program, introducing new volunteers to the
community via The Citizenship Project, which offers resources and
counseling to help residents bercome citizens. Avalos, who
graduates this fall, is typical of her generation.
